Brighter Horizons

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade."
1 Peter 1:3-4
Sorry God, Can't Talk Now - I'm Far Too Busy Serving You!

Do you ever find yourself so 'busy' that you fail to relate with God? I know I do!

Sure, I push myself to read my bible most mornings on the train.
And I push myself to rattle off a few words each night in prayer.
But is that really relating?

The words I read usually just go in one ear and out the other.
And the prayers I pray are usually just ramblings from the dregs of my mind.

And the greatest irony is this: not a day goes by when I'm not doing something God-related - be it going to church, credo or biblestudy, leading Sunday school or a small group.

Isn't it funny how you can spend your whole day doing God-stuff, but when it comes time to catch up with Him personally, you're either too tired, too busy, or just plain too lazy!

I don't know. Is it just me?

No dude, I dont think you're alone there at all!

It is definately a risk for all of us, but especially when you are in that position where it can appear as though you spend a lot of time relating to God, but the personal time lacks, suffers rather...

You know what though, I think its ok to make yourself have that personal bible adn prayer time, because at least you are remembering to do it, thats definately an important first step.

But i reckon its also so key to look at it the other way, that the desire to serve God in all these things should flow from the love and knowledge you have of him, so feeding that should be the first priority - otehrwise there aint much to work with really is there?!

Sorry, my thoughts arent articulated very clearly here haha....basically, you're not alone, and its good to bringing it to our (and your) attention!

I agree with Chelsea, it's not just you. When you get so involved in Christian ministry it can cause your own relationship with God to suffer. Although you are serving God by serving others, you still need the right motivation behind it. Maybe too much ministry is a bad thing. You need to have just time with you and God too.

Hope that helps. But don't worry, we're all in the same boat. And it's a terrible feeling.
